Blog 221 – How to be productive by looking at your day differently.

Zig Ziglar once said if you could go on an all expense paid trip to Acapulco tomorrow, how much could you get done in the next 24 hours?

I believe many people look at their work days as 9-5. We condense the 24 hours into 8 hours right off the bat.

We self sabotage our ability to use the full 24 hours.

What if we looked at our days differently? What if we looked at how we could maximize our 24 hours?
To be successful you need to work harder than your competition. You need to be working when they are not. You need to be more productive when you are working.

It’s sounds simple but it’s not. It takes incredible discipline.

You have to departmentalize your day into work segments. You have to eliminate distractions during these times.

But first you need to ask what matters most to you. You need to write down your big goals and where you want to be a year from now. Then ask yourself why you want to be there in a year. This makes you question the importance of your goal and if you can push through the adversity.

Once you have written down where you want to be in a year, then it’s time to map the journey. What needs to be done to get there? What needs to be done in the next 9 months, 6 months, 3 months and this month to make progress on that goal?

Now break it down even further. What needs to be done this week? And finally what needs to be done today?

Now look at your to do list, does it match up? Are you just putting easy things on the list just to cross them off? Or are you putting down the things that lead you to your goal?

Many people put numerous things on their to do list. I’d bet there are only a select few big things per day that help lead you to your goal.

Could you limit your list to just 3 things a day?

Tony Robbins believes that Extreme Focus and Massive Action is what leads to ultimate achievement.
What do you focus all your time and energy on? Is it in line with your big year end goal?

The key in breaking it down to 24 hours is that clear year-end goal.

That has always been my challenge. As a chronic experimenter, I’m constantly trying new things with my business and my life. How can I define exactly where I want to be a year from now? How do I know what will matter most to me? As I’ve shared it comes down to my why: My personal mission.

I think and talk a lot about inspiring people to stand out, be different and live an amazing life. Why is that important to me? Is that because I want it so badly for myself? Maybe I believe that in the pursuit to inspire others, I will learn to inspire myself and feel alive every day.

That may be the case and I’m okay with that. The key is to understand why and break it down.

If I dream of inspiring millions, I have to first start at inspiring myself. And then I need to focus on inspiring one person. And then hundreds of people and then thousands.

So at the end of 2018, how do I measure this? What does this life look like? And what do I need to do in my 24 hours to achieve it?

It’s time we all look at our 24 hours differently.
